Strengthening Knowledge of Chrysanthemum Cultivation through Education and Information Sharing at the Regional Agriculture Office of Tomohon City, North Sulawesi

Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum sp.) is a leading ornamental commodity in Tomohon City with high economic value and export potential. This community service program was conducted through a field visit using a participatory learning approach at the Tomohon City Department of Agriculture, involving observation, technical discussions, and hands-on practice on cultivation, pest management, and post-harvest handling. The program also introduced simple innovations such as pulsing techniques to extend flower freshness, organic fertilization to improve quality, and innovative packaging to maintain products during distribution. The results showed increased student understanding of chrysanthemum agribusiness and stronger interest in internships and research, while farmers gained knowledge of low-cost applicable technologies to enhance competitiveness. Thus, this activity served as a medium for knowledge transfer and a tangible contribution to strengthening the synergy between universities, government, and farmers in supporting sustainable agricultural development in Tomohon City.
